Hot springs

There was plenty to do in Pucon, even if the weather insisted on reminding us that Chile's summer had officially ended. Fortunately, hot springs are probably at their best when it's less than warm out. (Note that it was raining in this photo!)

Los Pozones hot springs were a forty five minute bus ride away through winding country roads. The hot springs were next to a river, surrounded by tall trees, rocks, and colorful flowers.

Instead of like traditional swimming pools, these pools had been constructed with rocks of all sizes, which helped the atmosphere feel natural.

Fortunately, I was able to refrain from putting my head into the water for a long time.

It didn't take long to turn into a prune.

The first time I visited Los Pozones, I went with two Europeans in the day time. It was a cloudy day so the steam rising from the springs made it seem even more so!

The second time was on a clear night with a big group of mostly Canadians and Americans from the hostel. This time I braved the cold water pouring into the thermal pools like a shower. It was pretty refreshing to go from one extreme temperature to another.

The moon and stars were out, making for a lovely, relaxing night.
